World Hunger Day will be observed this year on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 with a theme of “Thriving Mothers. Thriving World.” The annual event seeks to increase awareness about malnutrition and support communities in breaking the cycle of hunger.
In recognition of World Hunger Day on May 28, Second Helping will be significantly expanding its hunger relief operations to benefit food-insecure residents across mid-Michigan.
“Our goal for May is to distribute well in excess of 100,000 pounds of food to those who need it the most around mid-Michigan,” reported Michelle Ediva, Director of Hunger Outreach Programs at Second Helping, Inc.
“It’s important for the entire global community to recognize World Hunger Day. We are hoping to donate and distribute the equivalent of at least 100,000 meals to food insecure people in our communities this month. People facing malnutrition and chronic hunger pressures need us more than ever,” she added.
