Children’s access to food notably better in mid-Michigan
The devastating impact of Hurricane Helene has left an unprecedented trail of destruction in its wake that has been estimated at around $89 billion in damages.
Second Helping responded to this mammoth natural disaster by contacting hunger relief organizations in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina and pledging support immediately after the storm.
We provided financial assistance to the Bread of Heaven Outreach program in Vidalia, Georgia and this today resulted in more than 23,000 pounds of food being distributed to distressed households in central Georgia.
“Like many Americans, the Second Helping team closely tracked Hurricane Helene as it made its way up the western coast of Florida and into the southeastern part of the United States. We are extremely impressed by the dedication of so many people – near and far – as we collectively respond to this terrible storm system. Our team closely worked with Jennifer Mills Stephens at Bread of Heaven Outreach in Georgia and we plan to provide additional assistance next week,” said Michelle Ediva, Head of Hunger Relief Programs at Second Helping.
“Our joint success in getting more than 19,000 meal equivalents into the hands of people impacted by Hurricane Helene is really a tiny offering relative to the overall need in that region, but we’re grateful for the opportunity to help and blessed to be able to do so again next week,” she added.
