National Hunger Awareness Day and Second Helping, Inc.

Today is National Hunger Awareness Day and Second Helping, Inc. is recognizing today’s importance by a pledge to increase its hunger relief efforts this month.

Second Helping donated and distributed approximately 135,379 pounds of food around mid-Michigan in May, equivalent to more than 112,000 meals.

“We look to build upon last month’s strong results by expanding our successful programming activities in June in recognition of National Hunger Awareness Day today,” said Michelle Ediva, Director of Hunger Outreach Programs.

“While it’s a sad reality that hunger remains pervasively entrenched in our communities, it’s a blessing to be having such a major impact in the lives of our food-insecure neighbors.  We’re privileged to be a small part in the national fight against hunger, and we hope that our expanded efforts this month result in greater hunger awareness,” she reported.

“We are projecting that we will distribute more than 140,000 pounds of food this month, equivalent to more than 116,000 meals,” she added.
