Second Helping, Inc. Distributes One Millionth Pound of Food in 2024

Second Helping reached a major milestone this month when it distributed its one millionth pound of food year-to-date.

Following a very successful September in which it distributed approximately 146,413 pounds of food across mid-Michigan during Hunger Action Month, Second Helping donated and distributed approximately 216,053 pounds of food to food-insecure households this month, equivalent to approximately 180,000 meals.

Michelle Ediva, Director of Hunger Outreach Programs at Second Helping, said “We attribute our success to many factors, including our volunteers, reliable logistics partners including Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, our generous financial donors, the many townships and churches that we partner with, and our ongoing outreach efforts.”

“One million pounds is obviously a round number but when compared to the total demand from our hungry neighbors across the region, it seems woefully inadequate – and that motivates us to do even more.  We grateful to everyone that contributes to the success of our last-mile hunger relief efforts,” she added.
